About
the Over the Bars Gang:
The Over The Bars Gang is a group of off-road enthusiasts that
formed in the early 1980"s. The group was named by Richard
Enstad to go along with a group photo taken at a desert race in
Bend in 1981.The group numbered 9, 4 are still very active and 2
help when they can.
OTBG put on two Mayfests in the Simcoe Mountains, north of Goldendale
in 1987 and 1988. They were the same format as the Kittitas 100,
with a poker run on Saturday and a 100 mile cross-country on Sunday.
Although well-liked, the Mayfest died from land use issues.
In 1998, taking a page from NW Desert Racer's book, the OTBG created
their first GP course, the Goldendale Euro GP, this was followed
in 1999 by Starvation Ridge and in 2001 Goodnoe Hills.
1999 brought observed trials to Goldendale, put on by John Isherwood
and COTA, and hosted by OTBG. 2000 would bring the first National
observed trial with a World Championship round held in Goldendale
in 2001.
In
2000, the OTBG events became part of the OMRA Grand Prix series
as well as a stop in Washington's NMA off-road series.
2001 was a mixed year for OTBG with Goodnoe coming on-line and the
Euro held up in a lawsuit. With MX playdays, Grand Prix's, and a
50 mile monster cross-country loop in the works,Goodnoe seemed to
be destined for greatness when it was shot down by land use issues.Though
still off the schedule, there is hope that Goodnoe will return some
day.
2002 marked the return of the Euro GP free of lawsuits, and much
development on the Euro and the Ridge.A well was drilled at the
Euro site, now called Eddieville Motorsports park in memory of Ed
Doubravsky, who made it all possible.Equipment was aquired for irrigating,
working the track, and a fire truck was even purchased. Storage
tanks were set up for water, a generator wired up to provide electricity,
water lines run, culverts installed to ward of the Green Meanies,
and a portable office set up. Oh yeah, considerable time was spent
with the new equipment working on roads and reworking both courses.
With water, OTBG will extend the GP season, watering the complete
course, as well as branch out into MX playdays and races.
In 2003, OTBG is hosting 12 of the 15 OMRA Grand Prix events, with
March 23 being an NMA event.OTBG is promoting a new team series
with points tallied from the Grand Prix team races and two, team
only, Saturday events. A 4 hour team race at Starvation Ridge in
the spring as well as an end of the year 24 hour team race at the
Ridge in November is in the works to round out the new team series
promoted by OTBG.An Ironman class at the 2 Team only events will
be provided for those wanting more riding time.
A 40 man starting gate is on tap for Eddieville as well as more
storage tanks, permanent restrooms, and underground water lines
to water the MX track. We will be posting MX playdays as well as
MX races as they are scheduled.
The Over The Bars Gang are committed to putting on the best off-road
events in the world!
